These landscape paintings are primarily of scenes in the Wisahickon, in Maine and in selected gardens. Usually I choose these subjects because I feel an intimate connection to a place and also because of what it may symbolize for me: the short-lived beauty of flowers, the old memories of trees, the softness and resilience of grasses, the cycles of seasons, and, more generally, the awareness of a class of beings whose language we barely know and who quietly observe us as we go by.
